Scottish Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson Mike Rumbles MSP has warned that “news of the climate emergency does not seem to have reached Transport Scotland” as he revealed that staff at the organisation have taken almost 1,400 flights in the past five years.

The introduction of the higher fares in Scotland has come into practice amid falling performance levels. Peak-time season tickets and anytime day tickets in Scotland are now 3.2% more expensive, while the capped increase of off-peak fares is 2.2%. ScotRail said the rise was below the UK average of 3.1% and said it was investing “millions to build the best railway Scotland has ever had”.
Addressing the UK’s scheduled exit from the EU in January, the SNP leader sought to reassure EU citizens and said the Scottish government would work towards giving people the opportunity to “determine Scotland’s future”.
By 2022, the UK government may have changed the rail franchise system. Perhaps a new “concession” system will be in place, which means the operator wouldn’t own ScotRail trains or sell ScotRail tickets.
