Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton, Vale of Leven and Helensburgh, has welcomed the decision made my Boots the Chemist to waive the £5 delivery charge for prescriptions.

When this charge was originally introduced, Jackie Baillie called for Boots to rethink its plans citing that the charge discriminated against those unable to leave their house to collect prescriptions.

Due to the significant demand for deliveries and people self-isolating due to the coronavirus pandemic, Boots has waived the charge on a temporary basis.

Jackie Baillie MSP said:  “I am glad that Boots has temporarily suspended their £5 delivery charge. I called for this decision to be made months ago as it put those who were unable to leave their house at a financial disadvantage.

“Access to necessary medication is not a luxury and charging vulnerable people £5 to receive them was unfair.

“I  very much welcome the decision by Boots and I hope that they remove this charge in the long term to ensure that there are no barriers in the way for people who require access to essential medication.”
