TRUMP AGAIN TWEETS FRINGE COVID-19 DISINFORMATION

President Donald Trump ditched his days-old attempt to acknowledge the depth of the coronavirus crisis as he and his son, Donald Trump Jr., retweeted a viral video that was yanked by Facebook for pushing “false information about cures and treatments for COVID-19.” YouTube and Twitter also pulled the video. The clip, originally posted by the right-wing news site Breitbart, featured four people who identified themselves as doctors speaking in front of the Supreme Court building. One said that people do not need to wear face masks and attacked “fake doctors” who “sound like a computer.” The video also revived Trump’s promotion of hydroxychloroquine, which has been shown ineffective and dangerous. GOP FUSSES WITH UNWORKABLE UNEMPLOYMENT PLAN AS BENEFITS COLLAPSE

Senate Republicans unveiled their long-awaited proposal for another coronavirus economic stimulus package. The $1 trillion measure is supposed to be a starting point for negotiations with top congressional Democrats. But already it has divided the GOP and faces stiff opposition from conservatives. It includes another round of stimulus checks, similar to those paid out earlier this year, as well as aid to schools and smaller businesses, and expanded liability protections. The Republican proposal would reduce the extra federal unemployment benefits that Congress created in March from $600 to $200 until October. [HuffPost] ‌

FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE MOVED TO CLEVELAND

The first presidential debate for the 2020 election will now be held in Cleveland after the University of Notre Dame in Indiana withdrew as a host site for the event due to the coronavirus pandemic. The debate between Trump and presumably Democratic rival Joe Biden will now be hosted by Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Clinic. The event is scheduled to take place at the Samson Pavilion on the university’s Health Education Campus on Sept. 29. [HuffPost]
