The Scottish Sun is reporting that the Scottish Parliament has been asked to pass a motion congratulating Rangers Football on the occasion of their 150th anniversary.

Titled “Rangers Football Club 150th Anniversary”, it reads: “That the Parliament congratulates Rangers Football Club, founded in March 1872, on its 150th anniversary;

“Understands that it is the second most successful club in world football in terms of trophies won; further understands that it is one of the 11 original members of the Scottish Football League;

“Has been champion of Scottish league football 55 times, winner of the Scottish Cup 33 times, the Scottish League Cup a record 27 times, the domestic ‘treble’ on seven occasions, and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1972.”

The motion goes on to ask the parliament to applaud the work done by the club in supporting the Rangers Charity Foundation.

Scottish Tory MSP Murdo Fraser wrote: “Delighted to add my name to this motion ⁦@ScotParl⁩ from my ⁦@ScotTories⁩ colleague ⁦@Sandeshgulhane⁩ celebrating 150 years of the world’s 2nd most successful football club ⁦@RangersFC“

The motion speaks of the second most successful club in world history, as Rangers have won 115 trophies, behind Al-Ahly’s 118.
