WELFARE RIGHTS & MONEY ADVICE TEAM – W4U
After making inquiries UNISON has discovered that Welfare Rights and Money Advice Team since 2016 has brought in just short of 58 MILLION POUNDS into West Dunbartonshire Council.
What we know about benefits is the accumulative effect these have on the wider community.
Historically, West Dunbartonshire has scored poorly according to government data – what we have seen is a further deterioration with 2016’s stats showing a significant decline in comparison with 2012’s stats.
The evidence is clear that our Shire needs significantly more support – not less as we have seen over the past 10 years of Austerity.
In a time of GREAT NEED our council makes CUTS to services who deliver HIGH VALUE to our community.  The most vulnerable will be left behind even further excluded from society. Links to government data are listed below.

From the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation:

The five Local Authorities with the largest proportion of their data zones in the 20% most deprived are:
Glasgow (48%)
Inverclyde (44%)
West Dunbartonshire (40%)
North Ayrshire (38%) and
Dundee (37%)
