DUMBARTON 2 INVERNESS 1

SONS WIN OVER CALEY

A blistering first-half volley from Ryan Wallace had the hosts on their way before Tony Wallace headed in after the interval to cap off a fine team move as Sons earned a hard-fought win against last seasons Scottish Cup runners-up.

Billy McKay made for a tense finale when he pulled one back after his effort off the underside of the bar was ruled to have crossed the line but Stevie Farrell’s side held on for three points.

The result – Sons first ever win in 90 minutes over a team two tiers above them – leaves four teams in Group E tied on three points with Dumbarton, Airdrieonians, Dundee and Inverness all with one win each.

Dumbarton are back at The Rock on Saturday when they host Bonnyrigg Rose in their penultimate Viaplay Cup clash.
