Join us for this very special event in which renowned artist Tom McKendrick explores the influence of war in his art. Tom’s art has been heavily influenced by his upbringing in Clydebank and his time working in John Browns. He served as a Loftsman and spent the greater part of his apprenticeship working on the QE2. He went on to Glasgow School of Art in 1970.

His art is informed by the processes of the shipbuilding industry, with his exhibitions using a wide variety of media and techniques that serve to create a very special and intense experience for the viewer.

His work has been critically acclaimed and his major exhibitions include Blitz, Submarine, Rivet Temple, Iron, Heavier Than Air, and Soldiers.

War and the machinery of war is a recurring theme in his work. Solders, for instance, was created to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the ending of the First World War. His artwork for Blitz has an especially profound resonance for the people of Clydebank as it powerfully conveys the horror and the sheer magnitude of the destructiveness of the nights of 13th and 14th of March 1941.

Tom is both a wonderful artist and speaker. We can promise that this will be utterly engrossing and Tom’s talk will be accompanied by a presentation of some of his work.
