Resort favoured by Harry Styles and Beyoncé rescued with £15m investment
A luxury resort in Scotland which has hosted the likes of Harry Styles and Beyoncé has been rescued by a £15m investment after falling into administration earlier this year.
Uncertainty surrounded five-star Mar Hall in August after administrators were appointed and the property was put on the market.
The resort, which has been accommodated the likes of Ed Sheeran, Liam Gallagher, Brad Pitt, Kylie Minogue and the Scottish men’s football team, over the years, has now been saved by a £15m investment after being acquired by Dubai-based Dutco Group.
The hotel, golf and spa resort, which is located in the 240-acre Earl of Mar Estate in Bishopton near Glasgow boasts an 18-hole championship golf course and spa while its setting on the banks of the River Clyde make it a popular choice for weddings.

Its new owners intend to expand and upgrade the property with an “ambitious” programme to enhance the resort.
It said that a £15m investment package has been committed to “expand and upgrade the property, repositioning it as an international destination”.
One Dumbarton woman said: “It was obvious to those who went there regularly that Mar Hall was becoming tired. I went there for the past 12 years with friends around Christmastime when it had a terrific atmosphere. It always had a magnificent Christmas tree and the facilities were excellent. I am delighted to hear it has been rescued.”
Early design plans centre on “sympathetic restoration, capturing the essence of Mar Hall’s rich Scottish heritage, while adding a modern twist that will see it rival world-class resorts such as Cameron House and Gleneagles”.
Dutco Group, along with investment and asset management firm, Align Partners, are already in conversations with architects and interior designers, with appointments expected in January for commencement of the refurbishment in early 2024.
Plans include an expansion to the resort with new luxury woodland lodges, revitalised leisure and spa facilities, and a refurbishment of the guestrooms and public spaces.
Business will continue as normal under the new ownership, with all pre-existing wedding, leisure and business bookings retained.
Nelson Gibb, group CEO at Dutco Group, said: “This is our first hotel acquisition in Scotland which is recognised as a world-class destination for hospitality.
“This deal is testament to our confidence in Mar Hall and what we believe we can achieve through targeted and creative investment.
“We are looking forward to working with the Mar Hall team and our partners over the coming years to bring our vision to life.”
