Police confirmed that a 38-year-old dog-owner had been charged
Are you looking forward to the Christmas and New Year holidays when you will have all the time in the world to take your dog for long walks in the fresh air?
Then you should take notice of the fact that the police are on the alert and that a woman has been charged following a sheep worrying incident in Milngavie.
Police confirmed that a 38-year-old dog-owner has been charged and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
The Police Scotland force was made aware of the incident at around 10.30am on December 12, in the Milngavie area.
Police have warned dog-owners that if their pet attacks or chases livestock they could face prosecution under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock)(Amendment) (Scotland) Act 2021.
Owners have been reminded that it is their responsibility to keep dogs under control and on a lead when walking near livestock.
Inspector Alan Ferris said: “Around 10.30am on Tuesday, December 12, we were made aware of a sheep worrying incident in the Milngavie area.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
“Owners have a responsibility to ensure that their dogs are kept under control by keeping them on a lead when walking near any livestock as well as ensuring they are not able to run or escape into fields on their own.
“If an owner’s dog attacks or chases livestock they could face prosecution under The Dogs (Protection of Livestock)(Amendment) (Scotland) Act 2021.”
Farmers can let their sheep wander where they want and sheep present a big danger on the roads.
But woe betide anyone whose dog even slightly misbehaves. If the farmer doesn’t plug the dog with a bullet from his rifle which many of them love doing, then plod comes to the rescue.
And well done Police Scotland. They’ve got no resources to fight real crime but have plenty of time and resources for this.
