The Scottish Government’s brass-necked finance secretary has defended her choice to ignore the cost of living crisis and head out to the exclusive Chamonix resort in France over the festive period, with the area frequented by the likes of George Clooney and Kylie Minogue.

Shona Robison has defended her lavish holiday in the French Alps as she hit out at press “intrusion” after she was criticised by opposition parties for flying out to a luxury resort just days after hiking up tax for thousands of Scots.
The Scottish Daily Express previously told how the deputy first minister jetted out to a four-star resort in Chamonix, France, over the festive period. This is a exclusive region which has been frequented by the likes of Hollywood superstar George Clooney and chart-topping singer Kylie Minogue.
“While politicians, like everyone else, are entitled to a holiday, it’s tone deaf of the finance secretary to jet off on a luxury break just days after hiking taxes on hard-working Scots and imposing eye-watering cuts on key public services.”

“I decided that given I had hardly seen much of my daughter, due to the business of the Budget and other government business…we had a very short family break. If we’re going to start analysing where each of us goes on holiday, I think that’s a poor place [to be].
“If that’s now up for grabs as a way of attacking each other, I don’t think that does the body politic much good at all. We all make our own decisions about where we spend time with our family, and I did that in my own time with my own money. It shouldn’t be the subject of intrusion, but it is what it is.”
Perhaps a better way of taking Ms Robinson, pictured left, to task is to remind her that she promised to take up the case of a Dumbarton GP whose practice at Dumbarton health centre was unjustly shut down by the Health and Social Care Committee of West Dunbartonshire Council.
The Democrat, which was campaigning for the doctor to be reinstated – 1200 local people supported the campaign by signing a petition which was completely ignored – was re-assured by her after a half hour meeting in a room at Holyrood packed with her officials [she was Health Minister at the time] that she would pursue the case.
When she broke her promise to reply, The Democrat agreed to give evidence in the case at an Employment Tribunal where the doctor was completely vindicated by a judge of any breach of rules in relation to GPs and returned to work in another practice.
This was after his patients’ panel had been broken up and re-distributed to another Dumbarton practice whose principal partner is now the clinical director of the Health and Social Care Committee.
The Democrat editor who did the story [the Lennox Herald lawyers refused to print it] had his accreditation as a journalist withdrawn over a trumped up excuse that he refused to join IPSO, the regulatory body which replaced the Press Council, which was shut down after it was declared to be unfit for purpose.
Ms Robison has often been labelled out of her depth as finance secretary as she had no background in the financial industry and has so far being uninspiring when discussing the country’s budget with rivals. In the Holyrood magazine feature it was revealed that during the questioning, “at several times during the interview, she will turn to a page and read almost word for word the lines marked in yellow highlighter.”
She has become infamous for doing similar while in the parliament chamber as she reads off a script and fails to answer questions from MSPs.
