Mary’s Meals, the Scottish charity which works out of a shed in the back garden of a house at Dalmally near Oban in Argyll, does a power of work to help poor and hungry children across the world. Their work, which has been commended and supported by Pope Leo X1V has expanded into the USA, where it has received a warm welcome from people there. One of the countries where Mary’s Meals has given remarkable assistance is Haiti, which was in the news this week for no other reason than it was playing against Scotland in the World Cup in Boston, USA. Scotland won 1-0, of course, with West Dunbartonshire man John McGinn scoring the only goal of the match. Pope Leo is a football fan – he supports Real Madrid, no less, several of whose players from different parts of the world are taking part in the tournament. Of course, he has a soft spot for Haiti, which has had to face up to one disaster after another and been in dire trouble following earthquakes in the Caribbean. So, I am certain he would be delighted if you were to donate to Mary’s Meals, to support their work, which is widespread, and to which we have tried to give readers of The Dumbarton Democrat an insight into what they do in the collection of pictures above.
