Speakers on the day;
Lesley James – Chief Social Work Officer at WD HSCP
Stephen Smellie – UNISON NEC Member and also Chair of UNISON Scotland Social Work Issues Group
Social Work Forums are peer led sessions where workers come together to support and develop each other, these forums can also be used as CPD time for SSSC requirements
Lesley James said; as the CSWO in WD I am keen to support practitioners forums as they have a clear role to play in supporting learning, development and peer conversation, all of which contribute to social workers wellbeing and development.
I am happy to support practice forums generally and welcome any further discussions that practitioners would want to have… I want to encourage this across adults, justice and children and believe we can learn from each other across practice disciplines.
Stephen Smellie said; I am delighted to accept the invitation to visit WD and to the first meeting of the re-established Social Work forum. These forums play a crucial role in the development of workers and their practice. I look forward to sharing with workers the vital work which UNISON does through SWiG which is invaluable for our social workers
The branch says; we are happy to get this one over the line and respond to our members requests to have this forum re-established.
We expect a big turn out given the quality of speakers who will be attending, these will be short 10-15 minute contributions and members will have some 30 minutes at the end to begin to shape how their forum should organise going forward.
