AUDREY’S IN CHARGE AS SUPPORT SERVICE EXPANDS AT VALE OF LEVEN HOSPITAL

By David Coyle

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Support and Information Service has collaborated with local partner organisations to provide more in-person assistance at the Vale of Leven Hospital in Alexandria.

The SIS Offices across the local health board area offer a wide range of help to patients, their families and staff on a wide range of topics including benefits and money advice, information on healthy lifestyle and details of other local services that may be able to assist.

Social Security Scotland, Carers of West Dunbartonshire, Working4U and the Defence Medical Welfare Service will be partnering with SIS to have an on-site presence to help deal with queries in person.

Support and Information Services (SIS) Officer Audrey Mcelroy (CORR) said: “We’re delighted that we have been able to work with our partners to expand services, as the Vale is so heavily-rooted in the local community.

“By working with a broad range of organisations, referring people to the appropriate point of assistance, people get the assistance they require when needed.”

On Wednesday September 11, Audrey and partner organisations will be at the SIS office, next to the hospital front door, to answer any questions staff, patients and visitors may have, from 10am to 12noon.

She added: “It’s important that staff and patients and their carers know that someone will be here on a regular basis from now on.

“As there are a number of different organisations involved, we’re confident that when we are asked for advice or support, we’ll be able to help people directly or point them in the direction of the appropriate agency for further support.”

It is intended that the SIS office at the hospital front door reception, will have a staff present on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00-16:00.

A health board spokesperson said: “On other days, partner information and public health resources will still be available and our experienced team, working with a wide range of partners, can provide support, information and direct referrals to services.

“Issues it will assist people with include caring for relatives and friends, money advice, advice about anxiety, stress and depression, stopping smoking, alcohol and drugs, physical activity, weight management and further support groups and services.”
