REMINISCE WHILE YOU DINE IN DUMBARTON ON HOGMANAY

Roo’s Kitchen invites you to join them for the festivities …

I’m delighted to announce our two events for Hogmanay and New Year’s Day.
I am really quite proud of these menus and a lot of time and thought has gone into them
The Hogmanay menu holds a special place in my heart as I have based the menu around my memories growing up.
And if you read further then I will go on to explain my memories for each dish. I feel a lot will resonate with other people and it will be a journey as you eat. With the end of the year for me anyway it brings reflection and I think about things in life.
To book a table for either event please head to our website. A email with follow with confirmation along with another email with details about paying a deposit
For the Hogmanay dinner you will receive a free glass of fizz on arrival and there will be a live singer throughout the night! You can also byob for a £5 corkage per person.
The tipsy hair of the dog afternoon tea is for sit in @ Roo’s Kitchen and this takes places at 2pm on the 1st of January so this gives you time to recover a bit from the night before.
Course 1 is a picnic in the park – growing up my parents had a shop in a park and we used to spend a lot of time here, swimming, playing tennis & mini golf, playing on the kids toys and of course enjoying plenty of food during the summer months! when you have a picnic in the park a lot eats a ploughman’s lunch so doing my take on this felt very fitting.
Course 2 is fishing at the seaside – we used to go fishing with my dad a lot and visit his hometown of applecross! Of course this course had to based on fish but making it even more fine dining 🙌🏻
Course 3 is dinner at my grandparents – growing up I spent near every weekend at Suzie’s and Davie’s (my Granny & Granddad’s) in August of this year I lost my Grandad so I have spent a lot of time reminiscing on all the times I spent with them. Suzie would always make for dinner baked chicken in a tin of chicken & mushroom soup with new potatoes and carrots (although she can’t remember this 😂) I wanted to make something special and do my take on this ❤️ (I’m sure suzie will laugh when she reads this post 😂)
Course 4 Sunday roast – every Sunday me, my mum, dad and brother would head to a local Carvery which I know is a tradition for lots wether it’s made in the house or you go out. Doing this focused on a beef fillet makes it extra special especially given it’s Hogmanay
Course 5 childhood snacks – I love crisps, always have and always will. You would have them as part of your pack lunch a school, grab a bag when you get home before you had dinner. Infusing a panna cotta with this and pairing it with chocolate felt like a match made in Heaven
Course 6 and the final course Eddie’s Ices ice cream van – growing up my Dad (Michael – see where the name comes from 😂) had an ice cream van 🚐 every weekend, school holiday and basically every time when I wasn’t in school I would work in the van with either mum, dad or one of the people my dad had working for him. I have so many memories here! I wanted to do a trio of petite fours that focus on some amazing ice cream van treats.
It will be an incredible journey of food, one that I will pour my heart and soul into the preparation and presentation of it on the night ❤️
