NHSGGC nurses and midwives are ‘Leading the Way’ 

In celebration of the upcoming International Day of the Midwife and the Nurse, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is proud to highlight the inspiring work of its dedicated nurses and midwives, who have been instrumental in shaping the new Nursing and Midwifery Strategy, helping create:

  • An new and innovative strategy for the health board
  • Supported by a transformative approach to listening, known as the Big Conversation
  • Underpinned by close collaboration of nurses, midwives, and healthcare support workers.

All of these have been brought together under the umbrella of  ‘Leading the Way 2025-2029’ which can be downloaded here:

The Leading the Way shared vision is clear:

“All individuals, families, and their carers will experience high-quality, compassionate care, through the transformation of our workforce while ensuring that our staff are respected, valued, and nurtured.”

To deliver this vision, NHSGGC nurses and midwives have outlined four strategic priorities. These are:

  1. To foster approachable, compassionate, and visible leadership in nursing and midwifery.
  2. To advance professional practice through education, innovation, research, and transformation.
  3. To ensure safe, effective, efficient, high-quality care.
  4. To develop an inclusive culture of collaboration and caring.

Professor Angela Wallace, Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery said:  “We are grateful to all the nurses, midwives, and healthcare support workers, who bring immense value to our service every day. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to them for their extraordinary care and for taking the time over the past two years to share their stories. Their experiences have been invaluable in shaping the future of nursing and midwifery at NHSGGC.

“Throughout our conversations, one message stood out: our nurses and midwives are unwavering in their dedication to providing the best care possible. However, they need support to navigate the current challenges and continue their exceptional work.

“We are excited to bring the four strategic priorities outlined in our strategy to life, ensuring that our vision becomes a reality.

“As we launch this strategy, we are grateful to the board for their support. This year’s International Day of the Nurse and Midwife focuses on wellbeing and care in a crisis. Our strategy not only reflects these themes but also promises to shape a different and exciting future.”
