Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Ann-Marie Farrell, is embarking on an exciting new chapter as Scotland’s first Cardiac Amyloidosis Nurse Specialist at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, pictured right.
This role is part of a pioneering service aimed at treating cardiac amyloidosis, a rare form of heart failure. Until now, patients in Scotland have had to travel to the National Amyloidosis Centre in London for treatment.
Ann-Marie’s appointment marks a major step forward in bringing specialist care closer to home.
A colleague at the Golden Jubilee Hospital in West Dunbartonshire said: “Thank you, Ann-Marie for your outstanding service and dedication to Team Jubilee and patients in Scotland. We wish you all the very best in the new chapter of your career.”
Another colleague, Margaret Gavin, added her good wishes: “Good luck. Great post. My dad passed away in 1995 of amoloydosis when I think it was rare condition then. He got discharged from appointments getting told there was nothings wrong with him.
“We watched him deteriorate for years before he passed. Roughly eight years later the consultant in charge contacted my mum to inform her there was a development and condition was hereditary. I’m adopted so thankfully I’m not affected but if I can help in any way please let me know.”
