Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Inverclyde, Jamie Greene, has dismissed Reform’s plans for mandatory flags and royal portraits in schools as “insubstantial gimmicks.”
His statement comes after Reform’s education spokesperson, Suella Braverman, announced that she would force schools across Britain to fly Union Flags and display pictures of the King, contrary to the principles of devolution.
The Liberal Democrat candidate for Inverclyde argued that these proposals showed that Reform is not serious about fixing Scottish education.
Scottish Liberal Democrats are committed to getting Scottish education back to its best by banning mobile phones in classrooms and bringing in more pupil support assistants so all pupils can learn in a supportive and distraction-free environment.
Jamie Greene, left, said: “Covering schools in Union Flags and pictures of the King are exactly the kind of insubstantial gimmicks we’ve come to expect from Millionaire Malcom’s party.
“I’m in favour of the monarchy and national identity, but this isn’t the way to go about it.
“It’s clear that they have no plan to get Scotland’s education system back to its best, unlike the Scottish Liberal Democrats, who will prioritise getting mobile phones out of school and getting pupil support assistants in.
“For change with fairness at its heart for education, voters across Scotland can vote for the Scottish Liberal Democrats on that crucial second peach regional ballot paper.”
