Ever driven past the massive building works near Hillington, near the M8, and wondered what on earth’s going up?
That’s the South Clyde Energy Centre – an Energy-from-Waste facility (basically a modern incinerator) under construction by Fortum and Gren Energy.
Once it fires up towards the end of 2026, it’ll take around 350,000 tonnes of residual, non-recyclable waste a year that would otherwise head to landfill (or get shipped abroad) and turn it into enough electricity to power the equivalent of about 70,000 homes.
