NHS Golden Jubilee
After receiving a heart transplant at NHS Golden Jubilee, John McCormick has donated £112,000 to fund the UK’s first advanced ECMO training simulator of its kind, helping specialist teams train to care for future patients. He has also donated £5,000 to support cardiac rehabilitation services in recognition of the care he received throughout his recovery.
John’s extraordinary generosity will leave a lasting legacy, supporting the development of specialist services and helping ensure future patients receive the highest standard of care.
As we mark Organ and Tissue Donation Week, John’s story is also a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact of organ donation.
Linda McStay said: “Great news! Well done, John. I am also a transplant survivor. Unfortunately, I couldn’t have my surgery at the Jubilee as I had a congenital heart defect and had to go to Newcastle Freeman. In the future, people like me will be able to stay with the amazing team at the Golden Jubilee.
And Stan James added: “I also had a heart operation at the Jubilee, and the care and attention I got from all the staff was fantastic. They give their all to patients.”
