A response to a Freedom of Information request has revealed that since 2017, over 400 scheduled operations, that were set to take place within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, have been cancelled due to there being a lack of equipment to carry out the operation.

We know that using a mobile phone, driving while distracted, travelling at inappropriate speeds and not wearing a seatbelt are significant factors in fatal and serious injury crashes. This is why we take the matter seriously as they are avoidable, which makes it all the more tragic when people are killed in road crashes under these circumstances.

These figures are part of a wider uncovering of health service failings with figures highlighting that patients were stuck in hospital for a total of 45,632 days in September 2018 – with an average of 1,521 beds needlessly occupied each day as a result of delayed discharge.
