Building work is well underway of Veterans’ Charity Erskine’s Show Garden for this year’s Ideal Home Show in Glasgow thanks to the monumental help of many organisations.

The garden is a replica of the 163 year old stable building and piggery and is called The Stable: A Haven for Heroes.

The original building is situated on the charity’s Veteran’s Village in Bishopton which, since January 2018, has been the home of the Reid Macewen Activity Centre for Veterans*.

Building the garden and having it in place for the opening of the show on Friday 24th May is a mammoth task which is only possible with the help of many companies and individuals.

Jennifer Campbell, Events and Corporate Fundraising Manager at Erskine, who designed the garden, said: “We have been delighted to be the charity partner at the Ideal Home Show for the last seven years and we are now renowned for creating a unique Show Garden.  It would be impossible for us to achieve this challenge without the help of many friends and supporters.

“MKM Building Supplies (Glasgow) Ltd have once again donated materials for the garden build for the fifth year running.  McKay joiners from Bishopton are currently building the replica piggery ably assisted by Veterans from our Activity Centre.  Bullet Express will provide transport from the Erskine grounds to the SEC Glasgow. And it simply would not be possible for us to be involved in the show every year without the incredible help of a team of volunteers from SP Energy Networks who work with us to build the garden, stand and plant market from scratch!  This normally takes three days of long, hard work at the SEC. We have really put them through it over the years so the fact they come back every year is true dedication.”

Stable 2“We have to say a massive thank you to every single person who helps us at the show from all the team who build the garden to every volunteer who bucket collects to raise money for our Veterans over the four day event.”

Other companies generously supporting the garden build include The Cobble Shop, Rukeri, Wet Wall Works and Gordon Leslie Group.

Craig Arthur, Distribution Director at SP Energy Networks said: “We’re proud to be supporting Erskine with the build of its fundraising stand and Show Garden at the Ideal Home Show in Glasgow this year. SP Energy Networks’ apprentices have volunteered their time with the charity for the past six years being only too happy to help.  We hope that visitors to the show will be encouraged to donate to this great cause in aid of military Veterans in Scotland who have dedicated their lives to keeping us safe.”

Branch Director Lee Smith of MKM Building Supplies (Glasgow) said: “MKM Glasgow is very proud to support Erskine and the care they offer for Veterans that have given us all so much.”
