LibDem leader Willie Rennie and West Dunbartonshire hopeful Jenni Lang.
Commenting on new analysis from the Institute for Fiscal Studies which says that implementing the SNP’s general election manifesto in an independent Scotland would lead to deeper austerity than under the Conservatives, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie commented:
“The IFS is unconvinced by the SNP’s spending plans.
“Independence would not be positive for Scotland. It would mean at least a decade of new deep cuts at a time when we need to invest in education and boost mental health services to turn them around.
“We’ve got to learn the lessons of Brexit, not pile more chaos on top. Just like their Growth Commission, the SNP’s own maths is painting a picture of a poorer Scotland with less money for our public services.
“Liberal Democrats will stop another independence referendum in Scotland, and stop the division, chaos, new borders and economic cost that independence would cause. We will build a brighter future by getting on and investing in childcare, mental health and tackling the climate emergency.”
