The decision has sparked public outrage and an online petition against the closure that has attracted over 12,000 signatures since it was launched by concerned members of the public. Local MSP for the area, Jackie Baillie, branded the decision ‘short-sighted’ and had called on the city council to rethink the closure.
The Electoral Reform Society (ERS) said Scotland produced the “most disproportionate” result of any part of the UK because the SNP’s share of MPs so far outweighed its share of the vote.
“The boards complete disregard for the interests of the local community is breath-taking, and to have made these changes without consulting them, is unacceptable.
