Flamingo Land: £186,000 Tory donor failed to pay employees minimum wage

A report in The Ferret, a highly respected investigative media platform, revealed early today that the  company behind Flamingo Land has given nearly £200,000 to the Conservative Party and is alleged not to have paid its employees the minimum wage.
Reporter Jamie Mann disclosed that Flamingo Land Limited, which donated £186,000 to the Tories between 2014 and 2022 – including £50,000 since the last general election – was named by the Department for Business and Trade for failing to pay £3,033 to four of its workers.
The department said in February that Flamingo Land had breached national minimum wage laws.
Flamingo Land claims its £40 million resort bid, which includes a waterpark and monorailon land currently in the possession of Scottish Enterprise, would create 200 full-time, part-time and seasonal jobs, and pay the Scottish living wage.

  1. No bother to glad hand the politicos when in the example of Flamingo Land you can get given nearly £40m of land for nearly sweet FA.

Ah, but there will be some local toilet cleaning, chambermaid jobs.

Ah well, suck it up folks, the flotsam, even 90,000 of them don’t count. And the Council, their representatives, they agree.
Anyway, a bigger issue is what is going to be done with the 5 million tonne plus leaking toxic time bomb that is the Auchencarroch dump in the hills between Jamestown and Haldane.

A super tip with every conceivable type of waste and toxins right on our doorstep. And we think the poor in Africa and other impoverished areas are hard done by.
