In our corporate driven consumer society where not everyone is a fully cash endowed to participate in free and relaxed buying when desired or needed, charity shops provide a real societal benefit.
Clothes, often new and unused can be bought for peppercorn money compared to retail prices. For people struggling on low income or benefits using the charity shop makes so much sense. Additionally charity shops deliver other benefits too.
In this regard charity shops make profit which they then give to much needed charitable concerns. But in addition, charity shops also recycle perfectly good things that people might otherwise just throw out. So the environment is benefitted to.
And the key take away is that folks with items that are perfectly capable of re-use should take these items and give them the charity shop of their choice. And lastly, if the giver is a tax payer then they can say that they want their gift to sold as part of the Gift Aid scheme where the charity can claim tax from the government as a percentage of the products sols.
What not to like – give!
