‘One Battle After Another’, ‘Sinners’ and ‘Hamnet’ expected to lead this year’s movie crop

The Films Taking Over Awards Season

Actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman revealed the latest round of nominations, which saw Ryan Coogler’s vampire film Sinners become the most recognised film of all time. It received 16 nominations, exceeding the record of 14 previously held by All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997) and La La Land (2016),

Following close behind were Joachim Trier’s Norwegian film Sentimental ValueMarty Supreme, starring Timothee Chalamet, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and Chloé Zhao’s weepie Hamnet.

Snubs included Chase Infiniti, who was tipped for a Best Actress nomination for One Battle After Another, Paul Mescal for his supporting turn in Hamnet and del Toro in Directing.

The 98th Academy Awards will take place on 15 March, hosted by Conan O’Brien.
