The Head of News at Britain’s largest publication aimed at a black audience, The Voice, and Facebook’s Head of News Partnerships will be joining panel discussions at the Society conference on November 12.
Vic Motune will join the opening ‘Role of the Editor’ panel which brings together key editors from national, international, regional press and broadcast sectors to offer a lively debate on the current challenges of managing the modern newsroom and adapting to its ever-changing future.
Vic brings his expertise of developing and editing content for the weekly print edition of The Voice, as well as overseeing the video content which the publication delivers to reach their large social media following and website.
An award-winner of two ‘Race in the Media’ awards, Vic’s contribution to the conference will no doubt offer an invaluable insight alongside contributions from other figures such as the Mirror’s Alison Phillips, Reuters’ Alessandra Galloni and The Telegraph’s Chris Evans.
Sarah Brown, Facebook’s Head of News Partnerships will join the ‘Digital Future’ panel to offer her insights into building online audiences as the panellists face the question of how to ‘future-proof’ the newsroom. Sarah has over 15 years’ experience in international journalism and communications, including CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera English.
The conference will be held on November 12 at the historic venue of Stationers’ Hall in London to celebrate 20 years of the Society of Editors defending media freedom. The one-day event will culminate in a gala dinner which is already proving the must-attend event of the media year.
Keynote speakers for the conference include UK Minister for Human Rights, Lord (Tariq) Ahmad of Wimbledon, who has been a leading figure on this year’s FCO Media Freedom Campaign. Met Police Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, Britain’s most senior counter-terror official, will be delivering a keynote speech to delegates – following his comments about the role of the media in leaking documents which made headlines in July.
